human-in-the-loop
Updated September 2026
Human-in-the-loop is the design where software does the routine work and a person stays responsible for the judgment calls. The definition and how Sky does it.
What is a human-in-the-loop?
Human-in-the-loop is the design where software does the routine work and a person stays responsible for the judgment calls: the AI acts inside policy, and a human decides the exceptions.
It is the answer to 'what if the AI gets it wrong'. The routine volume runs itself; the cases that need judgment reach a person with the context already gathered, and the person stays in charge of the rules.
How does it work?
The agent works inside policies you set: which tools it may use, what it may spend or change, when it must hand off. Every action lands on an audit trail, and nothing goes live until the operator approves it.
- The agent acts only inside your policies
- Exceptions reach a person with full context
- Every action is on the audit trail, exportable
How does Sky do it?
Sky runs this way by default: identity verified per your policy, tools allowed or denied per department, money actions only through gated paths with caps you set, and a warm handoff with full context whenever a human should decide.

Frequently asked questions
Does human-in-the-loop mean a human watches every call?
No. The human sets the rules and takes the exceptions; the routine calls run themselves. The audit trail is there for review whenever you want it.
Who approves what the AI can do?
You do, per department: the tools it may use, the money paths it may touch, and the point where a person takes over.
What happens when the AI is not sure?
It says so and hands off with context. Not guessing is the loop working as designed, not a failure.
